Heathrow third runway opposed by Sadiq Khan over £9bn transport gap

Sadiq Khan has formally opposed Heathrow’s third runway, warning it would generate 60,000 extra daily road trips and require £9 billion of unfunded transport upgrades. The mayor, backed by seven London and home counties councils, argues the plans rely on outdated evidence and threaten net-zero goals. A parliamentary vote is expected in 2029.
