Parts of Stanmore were flooded on 28 July 2026 following a burst water main. The incident caused water to enter homes, gardens, and car parks in the area. Spur Road was closed to eastbound traffic between A5 Stonegrove and Edgware Way while Affinity Water engineers worked to repair the pipe.

Properties in postcodes HA8, WD6, WD7, and NW7 reported a poor water supply. Affinity Water stated that water pressure was rising and supply was returning to normal, though it remained below usual levels. Residents were advised to run taps until water cleared if it appeared discoloured.

Transport Disruption

The closure of Spur Road led to significant traffic congestion, with reports of slow movement extending to the A41 from the M1. Bus routes 107 and 142 were rerouted away from the affected area. Affinity Water indicated that Spur Road was expected to remain partially closed for several days as repairs continued.

Affinity Water issued an apology for the disruption. "We’re really sorry for the problems with your water today," the company said. "We are still repairing the burst water main on Spur Road in Edgware, but we have made adjustments to the pipework, so you’ll see your water flowing back to normal soon."
