Harrow recycling centre: you need a booking, and there are two per car a day
Forward Drive is open every day but Christmas, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day — and you cannot simply turn up by car.
Harrow’s tip is on Forward Drive in Wealdstone, and the thing most people get wrong is turning up without a booking. Bookings are online only; there is no phone line for them.
The booking rules
Harrow garden waste: £69 a year, and no refunds for signing up late
The price has been frozen for three years, direct debit is closed to new customers, and there is no pro-rata.
Two bookings per car registration per day, made up to fourteen days in advance, each for a thirty-minute slot. Once you have made your first disposal there is no re-entry. If you are walking in you do not need to book at all: report to the site office. Trade waste does not use the booking system either — go to the weighbridge.
What to bring
Your booking confirmation, valid photo identification, and proof of your address such as a utility bill or council tax bill. The council prefers a photocard driving licence. If yours is the old paper licence it is accepted only if you also have a bank or credit card in the same name.
Fly-tipping in Harrow: 13,925 incidents, 1,242 fines, no prosecutions
The council issued more fixed penalties than almost any borough its size last year and took nobody to court.
Vans, trailers and height
Only cars can use the booking system. Seats may be folded down but not removed, and vehicles must be no higher than 6ft 6in. Every van reports to the weighbridge and is charged — Harrow has no van permit scheme of the kind some boroughs run.
On trailers the council contradicts itself. The web page describes a booking procedure for them; the site’s own terms and conditions say trailers of any kind are not permitted. We have asked which applies. Until it is answered, ring before you set out with one.
What they take
Household waste, garden waste, mattresses, metals, textiles and carpets, fluorescent tubes, wood, cooking oil, up to ten litres of engine oil, small and large electricals, Christmas trees and coffee pods. Laptops go to Sustain IT and bikes to Collect4Reuse for reuse.
Rubble, soil and hardcore are limited, and here too the council’s own pages disagree: the web page says a maximum of five bags, the terms and conditions say three per visit.
What they will not take, and where it goes instead
Asbestos is not accepted. It goes through the City of London’s hazardous waste collection, for which you need your council tax number and must bag the material yourself. Explosives, ammunition, fireworks, petrol and diesel are refused outright, as is commercial waste brought in on a resident booking.
What it costs
Household waste from residents is free. Charges for 2026/27 are £362 a tonne for general trade waste with a £125 minimum, £105 a tonne for green waste and for cardboard with a £32 minimum, and £26 for each trade mattress. Metals are free. Non-residents bringing household recyclables pay a £33 minimum per car load.
